چکیده

There is considerable interest in improving nitrogen ®xation in legumes to increase soil fertility, particularly in the developing countries. The effect of inoculation of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seed with Bradyrhizobium sp. USDA 3187 was examined under ®eld conditions. In order to determine nodule occupancy, bacterial cells from surface-sterilized nodules of inoculated plants were isolated and characterized by their intrinsic antibiotic resistance and by agglutination test. Results obtained revealed that peanut roots were nodulated by native strain rather than the introduced one, indicating that strain USDA 3187 was not as competitive as naturalized peanut rhizobia. Data also showed that there were no signi®cant differences in nodule dry weight, plant dry biomass, nitrogenase activity and seed yield between uninoculated and inoculated treatments. # 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Inoculation response of legumes in relation to the number and effectiveness of indigenous Rhizobium populations.

The response of legumes to inoculation with rhizobia can be affected by many factors. Little work has been undertaken to examine how indigenous populations or rhizobia affect this response. We conducted a series of inoculation trials in four Hawaiian soils with six legume species (Glycine max, Vigna unguiculata, Phaseolus lunatus, Leucaena leucocephala, Arachis hypogaea, and Phaseolus vulgaris)...

Purification and Characterization of Two Acid Phosphatases from Germinating Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Seed

The maximum acid phosphatasic activity was detected in peanut seed at the 5th day of germination. At least, two acid phosphatases were purified by successive chromatography separations on DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B, CM-Sepharose CL-6B, Sephacryl S-100 HR, and Phenyl-Sepharose HP to apparent homogeneity from five days old cotyledon of peanut after germination. These isoenzymes, designated peanut cotyl...

Development of environmental friendly bioinoculate for peanut (Arachis hypogea L.) production in Eastern Ethiopia

Background: Bacterial bioinoculate is one of environmentally friendly input for crop production. Several works revealed that effectiveness of Rhizobium bioinoculant have been affected by the native rhizobia population. Hence, this study was initiated to evaluate the effect of selected Bradyrhizobium in nodulating peanut in the major growing areas of Ethiopia. Methods: The effect of eight effect...

Oils as adhesives for seed inoculation and their influence on the survival of Rhizobium spp. and Bradyrhizobium spp. on inoculated seeds.

Mineral oil, peanut oil and soybean oil were compared with water and gum arabic for their suitability as adhesives for seed inoculation with peat inoculants. Inoculated seeds were stored at 4, 28 and 34°C, and sampled after 1, 3 and 9 days to determine the survival of rhizobia. Germination and nodulation tests were performed on the inoculated seeds. Results showed that oils were suitable adhesi...

In Vitro Embryo Explant Cultures of Peanut to Evaluate Resistance to Ditylenchus destructor.

Population densities of D. destructor on embryo explants of 22 peanut genotypes grown in vitro were compared with those in roots and seeds of the same genotypes grown in the greenhouse. During the first 8 weeks after inoculation, the optimum incubation period was 6 weeks for maximum reproduction of Ditylenchus destructor on embryo explants of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L. cv. Sellie) inoculated w...
